"Hey, cheer up. It's not the end of the world . Where'd you work before Venn Co, anyway?"

((starting is 50k for a help desk job for a county in southern wisconsin....if only I had a 2yr degree....much more if you move to California. and with the cost of things like....oh lets say their freedom, Jess is thinking it should be several mil))
"Just got out of college actually....I worked part time for the IT department making lunch money, but it got me my degree for free so...."

" Heh, that's nice. But it looks like they might value your use of gun over your degree here. They didn't even look at mine either..."
He got up and extended a hand to lift her on her feet.
"Come on, they're going to start whatever this is soon. Looks like we need to pass it if we want our jobs."

"You mean our lives? To tell you the truth before today I havent even touched a gun since I was twelve..."

" Really? You seemed pretty damn good out there. Me? I just know a little martial arts is all. Honestly, with all the other recruits gone, I don't think they'll have much of choice than to hire us.

"It's starting to seem more like its our survival skills are whats really being tested..."

Lamaar asked the man in the booth if he could possibly use some of the firm's rifles.

"Of course. It is a test range. What's your fancy?" The man responded.

"Speaking of which..."
He goes over to the man behind the gun-rack.
"two Assualt Rifles to rent, please!~"
He grabs them from the worker, then hands one to Jess.
"Can ya' give me some pointers maybe?"

"Er... Out of curiosity, what do you guys have in the way of rifles? I mean, hunting or bolt-action rifles, not assault rifles."

Jess looks at the assault rifle "I havent actually ever seen one of theese up close before...I suppose flip this switch to full auto, point the business end at what you want dead and squeeze the trigger."

" That's all? From what you were doing with that pistol earlier you seemed talented. Maybe I'll have to give you some pointers!" He laughed.

"A pistol is not an assault rifle, I'm not that good...and as I said last time I was around guns was when I was 12."

"Or I could show you both some stuff..."

"Probably...didnt we basically already pass this test by, lets say: surviving this far?"

"Do you want tips or not?"

"Sure, anything to increase my odds of surviving."

"Okay..."

A few hours later...

"Thanks, that was actually better then I expected~"

"Uhh... Yeah, sure..."

"Yea, thanks. Now where can I get myself a good rifle? Will they let me just go to a gander mountain?"

"Gander mountain? What...?"

" Do you mean a shooting range or something. The rifle I gave you is a rental. The real thing costs a bit."

"Its a sporting goods store...."
((a regular bolt-action rifle would cost ~ 200-300 dollars))

Lamaar decided he would take 3 carbines: 5 foot, 4 foot, and a 3 and 3/4 foot.

The man behind the counter gave him them, along with some ammunition. Lamaar proceeded to go to his booth and start firing.
